At this point the decibels were emanating from a lone performer on the stage, Bonnie Mercer. Her solo performance comprises wholly of feedback manipulation, sometimes evoking a gojiran giant slowly being brought to the ground, sometimes an unwilling noise-spirit being dragged moaning from the amplifier. In both instances the spectacle is impressive. If you can imagine Fun House slowed down – like all the amphetamine had run out, and Iggy was using his newfound quaalude-time to explore his feelings for sludgy psychedelic drones (and decided he loved them) – you can imagine a certain aspect to the sound created by Bonnie Mercer and her Jaguar.

This was my Tropscore 2012 entry. Hence, ideally this should be listened to whilst viewing the supposedly accompanying short film….but the T’s and C’s say that’s not allowed…..

Bonnie Mercer: Blau. Reminds me of Faust IV (oh, come on, whaddaya mean you’ve never heard of it? Oh, for fuck’s sake) tuneful and melodic through a delicate haze of fuzzy guitar. Actually, this is really damn good. I love this one. Hell, it doesn’t go for long enough.

SUNDAY 25th MARCH - NORTHCOTE SOCIAL CLUB

On Sunday night (25th March) I’ll be opening up for Boris (from Japan) down at the Northcote Social Club. Doors 8pm.

I’ve never seen Boris play live, so I’m really looking forward to checking them out!  A memorable tour moment is discovering the album Absolutego with Rob Mayson during the first Grey Daturas USA tour.  We were sleeping on the floor of the promoters house in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, came across the CD in his collection and proceeded to happily fall asleep with the CD on repeat.  Hopefully our hosts slept as pleasantly as we did that night.

I was gonna post I link to some Absolutego, but to be honest….I’m hoping Boris kick out the fuckin’ jams in the following fashion on Sunday night!

SUNDAY 1st APRIL - THE CORNER HOTEL

On Sunday 1st April, my band Dead River will be playing with Dead Meadow & Pink Mountaintops at the Corner Hotel. Once again I’ve never seen either band play live and it’s a pretty damn exciting support slot for my relatively new band.

Here a recording of Dead River live on 3CR radio:

And finally…..(only for now!)…..

SUNDAY 22nd APRIL - GRACE DARLING HOTEL (CELLAR)

I’m extremely excited to have been asked by Scattered Order (a legendary noise making band from Sydney, Australia, who began their post punk assault on listeners in 1979!!) to play guitar with them for a show when they travel down to Melbourne in April!
